上海浦東新區(qū)民辦宏文學(xué)校作為一所IBDP候選校，致力于培養(yǎng)學(xué)生們的溝通和思考能力，拓展他們的多元化思維和理解能力。

　　為了實(shí)現(xiàn)這一目標(biāo)，本學(xué)期我們參加了“世界學(xué)者杯”(WSC)國(guó)際比賽，這場(chǎng)精彩賽事將為宏文學(xué)子提供一個(gè)與來(lái)自世界各地優(yōu)秀學(xué)生交流和競(jìng)爭(zhēng)的機(jī)會(huì)。

　　“世界學(xué)者杯”比賽有三大板塊，分別是：辯論、合作寫(xiě)作和知識(shí)競(jìng)賽。所有內(nèi)容都是基于2020年的課程主題——“新世界”，該課程涵蓋了六個(gè)學(xué)科領(lǐng)域：科學(xué)、社會(huì)研究、文學(xué)和媒體、歷史、藝術(shù)和音樂(lè)，此外還有一個(gè)特殊領(lǐng)域——錯(cuò)失和彌補(bǔ)。學(xué)生們以三人一組的形式展開(kāi)課程內(nèi)容的學(xué)習(xí)和競(jìng)賽。

　　Hongwen School is an IBDP candidate school. We are keen to take every opportunity to develop students’ communication and thinking skills, while promoting awareness and understanding of different perspectives.

　　In pursuit towards that goal, this semester we launched the World Scholars’ Cup (WSC), a fantastic competition in which our students will have the change to connect with and compete against students from all over the world.

　　There are three main elements to WSC: debating, collaborative writing and quizzes. All of these are connected to a curriculum based on the 2020 theme, “A world renewed”, which covers six subject areas: Science, Social Studies, Literature and Media, History, Art and Music and a Special Area, Mistakes and Recoveries. Students work in teams of three to learn the curriculum content, and compete.

　　作為宏文ECA的一門(mén)課程，我們的“世界學(xué)者杯”團(tuán)隊(duì)(由Charlotte Stonehouse, Gavin Ross和April Li三位老師組成)一直在幫助學(xué)生編寫(xiě)學(xué)習(xí)指南，并培養(yǎng)他們?cè)诟?jìng)爭(zhēng)中獲得成功的必要技能。

　　我們尤其注重公開(kāi)演講技巧的培養(yǎng)，通過(guò)展開(kāi)各種游戲和活動(dòng)鼓勵(lì)學(xué)生表達(dá)自己的觀點(diǎn)，或者具有建設(shè)性地回應(yīng)他人的觀點(diǎn)。

　　通過(guò)陸續(xù)組織了一些小型辯論之后，我們決定是時(shí)候給宏文的學(xué)生們提見(jiàn)證一次真正的WSC風(fēng)格的競(jìng)賽了，因此我們?cè)诤晡膶W(xué)校舉辦了一場(chǎng)英語(yǔ)辯論比賽。

　　In our ECA sessions, the WSC team (Charlotte Stonehouse, Gavin Ross and April Li) have been supporting students in compiling study guides and developing the necessary skills to succeed in the competition.

　　We have focused particularly on effective public speaking skills, through games and activities to encourage students to express a point of view or respond to someone else’s constructively.

　　After some mini debates, we decided to give our students the opportunity to practice or witness a true WSC style debate and hosted one in-house.

　　這場(chǎng)英語(yǔ)辯論賽在7月3日星期五舉行，辯論的主題是一個(gè)關(guān)于社會(huì)研究課題的討論：“我們相信沒(méi)有時(shí)尚的世界會(huì)更好”。

　　代表正方的是8年級(jí)的學(xué)生Tony Zhu、Robin Ma和7年級(jí)的Eric Dong。他們的觀點(diǎn)主要詮釋了時(shí)尚給世界帶來(lái)的社會(huì)問(wèn)題和環(huán)境影響。

　　而反方代表，來(lái)自九年級(jí)的學(xué)生Butemwe Chakaba, Yoyo Zhang和Lucas Chen則認(rèn)為，時(shí)尚可以作為社會(huì)的均衡器，如果沒(méi)有了時(shí)尚的存在，世界也將失去色彩和文化的調(diào)和。

　　Our debate took place on Friday 3rd July and was based on a Social Studies related motion: This house believes that the world would be better off without fashion.

　　On the affirmative side, arguing for the motion were Grade 8 students Tony Zhu and Robin Ma and Grade 7 student Eric Dong. They explained the social and environmental problems that fashion causes to the world.

　　On the other hand, Grade 9 students, Butemwe Chakaba, Yoyo Zhang and Lucas Chen argued for the negative side against stab motion. They maintained that the world would lack colour and culture without fashion and that fashion can act as an equalizer in society.

　　我們很榮幸地請(qǐng)到了來(lái)自上海其他雙語(yǔ)學(xué)校的六位評(píng)委，他們都是參加過(guò)多年“世界學(xué)者杯”比賽的前輩同學(xué)。其中包括三位剛畢業(yè)于IB的學(xué)生：

　　將進(jìn)入杜克大學(xué)學(xué)習(xí)心理學(xué)和計(jì)算機(jī)科學(xué)的Xixi Lei、將進(jìn)入圣安德魯大學(xué)學(xué)習(xí)醫(yī)學(xué)的Nisthula Rajesh、以及將進(jìn)入加州伯克利學(xué)院工程系的Jennifer Chen。

　　另外還有三位即將進(jìn)入12年級(jí)的優(yōu)秀的IB學(xué)生：Katrina Lee, Michael Cui和Yu Hong Law。

　　幾位評(píng)委除了對(duì)此比賽中每位辯手的個(gè)人表現(xiàn)給了認(rèn)真的評(píng)價(jià)反饋之外，還就辯論賽中如何團(tuán)隊(duì)協(xié)作以及如何辯證思考關(guān)鍵詞的含義等方面提供了許多積極有效的建議。

　　We were honoured to welcome six guest judges from other Shanghai international schools, who had all participated in World Scholars’ Cup themselves for many years. Out judge panel included three recent IB graduates:

　　Xixi Lei going to study Psychology and Computer Science at Duke University, Nisthula Rajesh, soon to be a Medical student at St Andrew’s University and Jennifer Chen going to University of California Berkeley College to study Engineering.

　　We also welcomed three high achieving mid-IB students entering Grade 12: Katrina Lee, Michael Cui and Yu Hong Law.

　　The judges offered insightful guidance to students. As well as individual feedback, they gave useful advice in how to plan together as a team, and to unpack the motion considering critically what the key words mean.

　　辯論比賽結(jié)束后，評(píng)委們與宏文的學(xué)生和家長(zhǎng)們分享了他們?cè)诟咧泻虸B的學(xué)習(xí)經(jīng)歷。這是一個(gè)很好的機(jī)會(huì)，讓我們的學(xué)生了解到包括高中課程選擇到升學(xué)擇校要求、甚至是IB學(xué)生的作息時(shí)間等方方面面的重要信息和經(jīng)驗(yàn)。

　　After the debate we had a very informative question and answer session with the judges sharing their own high school and IB experiences with our students and parents. This was an excellent opportunity for students to get insights on matters as varied as course choices, to university requirements to the time IB students go to sleep!

　　最后宣布比賽結(jié)果，雖然反方獲得了大多數(shù)觀眾的支持，但根據(jù)最后的綜合評(píng)分，正方仍以微弱優(yōu)勢(shì)獲得了勝利。

　　然而，正如我們的一位學(xué)生評(píng)委所說(shuō)，過(guò)程比結(jié)果更重要。對(duì)我們宏文學(xué)生來(lái)說(shuō)，比贏得比賽更重要的是與團(tuán)隊(duì)一起協(xié)作的經(jīng)歷，讓我們獲得了寶貴的經(jīng)驗(yàn)，在興趣和特長(zhǎng)的培養(yǎng)中不斷進(jìn)步與成長(zhǎng)。

　　我們非常感謝每一個(gè)參與這次活動(dòng)的人，并期待在未來(lái)通過(guò)更多的WSC活動(dòng)來(lái)豐富宏文學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)和成長(zhǎng)經(jīng)歷。

　　Finally the winning team of the debate was announced and this narrowly went to the affirmative team, although the negative team won the audience’s vote.

　　However, as one of our student judges said, it is more about the process than the result. More importantly than winning students, worked together with their teams, gained speaking and debating experience and have hopefully grown in confidence and enthusiasm as a result.

　　We are very grateful to everyone involved in making this event a success and look forward to enriching students’ learning through more WSC activities in the future.
