六月將盡，小學(xué)返校復(fù)課也有一段時(shí)日。上周，福州西湖國(guó)際學(xué)校小學(xué)部舉辦了一年一度的數(shù)學(xué)競(jìng)賽：算24點(diǎn)！

　　June is coming to an end, and primary school students have been back in session for a while. Last week, Fuzhou Lakeside International School held its annual primary school math contest: Math 24!

　　「算24點(diǎn)」采用積分制規(guī)則，答對(duì)紅色題目卡積一分，藍(lán)色兩分，黃色三分。前兩輪參賽選手四人一組，每輪時(shí)長(zhǎng)十分鐘。第一個(gè)拍下卡片的選手獲得答題權(quán)，三秒內(nèi)未答出將被警告，選手必須使用加減乘除等數(shù)學(xué)方式，設(shè)法讓牌面4個(gè)數(shù)字算數(shù)所得為24。前兩輪積分最高的六名同學(xué)得以擠身競(jìng)爭(zhēng)更加激烈的第三輪比賽！此時(shí)積分清零，僅余兩組選手，每組三人。這一輪積分前三的同學(xué)便成為了我們的決賽選手！

　　Math 24 was conducted on a point system: one point for a red question card, two points for blue, and three points for yellow. In the first two rounds, students were divided into groups of four and each round lasted ten minutes. The first player to take the card got the right to answer the question; failure to answer within three seconds would result in a warning. The player was allowed to add, subtract, divide, and multiply four numbers in the card in order to get an answer of 24. The six students with the highest scores from the first two rounds were able to move on to the more competitive third round! In this round, the points were cleared and there were only two groups of players left, three in each group. The top three students in this round became our finalists!

　　晉級(jí)決賽的三位選手均為五年級(jí)生，恰好，課外他們都是FLIS足球隊(duì)成員。昔日隊(duì)友如今在決賽場(chǎng)上針?shù)h相對(duì)，大家時(shí)而激動(dòng)時(shí)而放松，精神奕奕地打完了這一輪。最終，Jack同學(xué)以卓越表現(xiàn)摘得冠軍，第二名為Eric同學(xué)，Diego同學(xué)位列第三名。恭喜他們！

　　The three players who advanced to the final round were all fifth graders, and it just so happened that they were all members of the FLIS soccer team. The former teammates were now competing against each other in the Math 24 finals, and they all finished the round in great spirits, sometimes excited, sometimes relaxed. In the end, Jack won the championship with his outstanding performance, followed by Eric in second place, and Diego in third place. Congratulations to all of them!

　　在IPC教學(xué)中，五年級(jí)的同學(xué)近來(lái)聚焦歷史上的重要發(fā)明與發(fā)明家。上周，他們學(xué)習(xí)了溝通的歷史。在鋼筆、鉛筆以及其他交流科技出現(xiàn)之前，人們是如何使用一系列工具與技術(shù)傳遞信息的呢？學(xué)生們先在課堂上制作了再生紙，之后，他們用炭筆、粉筆、樹(shù)枝、樹(shù)葉、石子、蔬菜，甚至自己的雙手，在紙上留下訊息、寫寫畫畫。他們還用藍(lán)莓制作了墨水！

　　In IPC, G5 students have been focusing on inventors and inventions throughout history. Last week, they learned about the history of communication and how people used a variety of tools and techniques to send messages before pens, pencils, and other communication technology existed. First, in a previous lesson, students had made their own recycled paper and used charcoal, chalk, sticks, leaves, rocks, vegetables, and even their own hands to write messages and draw pictures. They even made their own ink out of blueberries!

　　不久后我們將迎來(lái)中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)節(jié)日;端午節(jié)。在此提前祝愿大家端午安康！記得吃粽子哦:)

　　We will be celebrating the traditional Chinese festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, in a few days. Here's an early wish for good health on the Dragon Boat Festival! Remember to eat Zongzi (traditional foods especially for the Festival which are made of sticky rice mixed with sweet or savory fillings, wrapped with bamboo leaves, and steamed or boiled) :)
